They are everywhere: in the bark of trees, in fruit that rots, in algae, on the stems of plants and in basically any humid and warm place that can keep them alive. Fungi are in all cycles of nature.
'Symbiosis - The Fungal Connection' appears to demystify the idea that fungus means rot. The exhibition presents how these organisms are essential for ecosystems, and how we can benefit from these beings for the food industry, fashion, civil construction, the funeral industry, in addition to medicinal use.
Fungi are everywhere. On the ground, under the sea, in the air through their spores released by mushrooms, within us. They have been on Earth for millennia and are part of our evolution. They are diverse, just like us.
Talking about fungi is talking about the collective, about transformation. It is necessary to use creativity to better understand these beings. At this moment, for example, mycelial networks far below our feet communicate like big brains, in an immense organic Internet. If we could process their signals, we would learn more about the ecosystem around us.
Each new discovery about the benefits of fungi, for nature and for human health, is a reminder that much is still unknown and is already threatened - whether by changes in land use or the climate emergency.
“Symbiosis – The connection through fungi” is a glimpse of the vastness of this universe, a demonstration of how the whole impacts us and how our actions have an effect on the whole.
